Wallpaper FAQs

Wallpaper FAQs

Our design team's advice and tips on measuring, prepping and hanging our wallpapers.

How do I measure my wall?

Each wallpaper roll measures 52cm in width and is 10 metres in length. Pattern repeats vary, and these are detailed on each product’s page.

Step 1: Calculate the number of vertical strips (drops) needed
Divide the total width of your wall by 52cm to find out how many drops are required.
Example: A wall that is 200cm wide would need 4 drops (4 x 52cm = 208cm).

Step 2: Determine the length of each drop
Measure the height of your wall - for instance, 2.3m - and then add the length of the pattern repeat.
If the repeat is 10cm, the total drop length becomes 2.4m.

Now calculate the total wallpaper length needed:

4 drops x 2.4m = 9.6m

Since each roll provides 10m, one roll would be sufficient.

Important Notes:

  • Always order slightly more than calculated to allow for trimming, pattern matching, obstacles like sockets or switches, and potential mistakes.
  • Consider keeping extra wallpaper for future repairs or touch-ups.
  • Wallpaper is printed to order in batches, so colour and design may vary between print runs. Please ensure you purchase enough to complete your project.

If you’re uncertain, we recommend consulting a professional decorator for accurate measurements and advice.

Paste the wall or paste the wallpaper?

This is a “paste the wall product”. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wallpaper.

Which type of wallpaper paste do you recommend?

A premium quality tub adhesive, or an equivalent good quality PH-neutral, solvent free, fungicide protected, light grade adhesive.

How do you prepare a wall for wallpaper?
  • Walls should be clean, dry and even.
  • Remove old wallcoverings and/or loose paint.
  • Roughen paint surfaces with sandpaper.
  • For best results we recommend the walls are cross-lined using good quality lining paper.

What else can I wallpaper besides my walls?
  • Inside Bookshelves or Cabinets
    – Add depth and visual interest by lining the back panels of open shelving or glass-front cabinets.
  • Ceilings
    – Often called the "fifth wall," wallpapering a ceiling can create a dramatic or cozy effect, especially in small rooms or powder rooms.
  • Furniture Makeovers
    – Use wallpaper to cover drawer fronts, tabletops, or cupboard doors for a custom, decorative touch.
  • Stair Risers
    – Apply wallpaper to the vertical face of each step to add character and charm to your staircase.
